rc helicopter servo?

T C

What is servo for? what does it do ?

Answer
A servo is a small motor that is hooked up to the reciver. When the reciever gets a signal from the remote, it tells the servo to move. When the servo moves, it is connected to a linkage that controls either the elevator, aileron, pitch, collective, rudder, or engine power. It does this by either pushing or pulling a ball link which pushes or pulls other links to cause movement of the main blades, tail blades, or throttle. If you are thinking about getting into the hobby, I would say go for it. Before you try to fly anything though, you should go to a flying field to talk to other pilots and get the required permits and license. Good luck, and happy flying.

What does determines the weight that can be lifted by a helicopter?

I am trying to find a RC helicopter able to lift objects, what determines the weight that can be lifted by the RC helicopter? The RPM of the blades? the blades' size?

Thanks

Answer
in real helicopters, a lot of factors.

for the most part, those can be reduced to engine power and main rotor efficiency being the critical point.

engine power AND altitude/temperature are the most limiting factors for slingload operations, where you HAVE to hover with your load.
for internally transported payload, you can use rolling takeoff/landing, which enables you to lift more.

the MTOW and mass and ballance and other factors come into play, too.

for your application- be sure your payload is placed as close to rotor axis /center of gravity as practical.

anyways, for practical reasons all the "decorations" common RC helicopter has, they can be all removed and replaced with payload.

in small RC helicopters, the RPM of the rotor influences the lift. in real life, we use collective pitch.
yet increasing RPM is not a cure for everything. you have to observe blade loading from centripetal forces etc.
