please mention that my helicopter is really small as you can see in this link

I live in san marcos CA so remember that what you say is available in my city or not.

Answer
You could get a 2.4 Ghz Pinhole Wireless Color Camera with audio for about $300. But at that, it is no guarantee your helicopter will fly with it. That seems like a small helicopter and the flight weight seems like it could barely fly with 7 ounces. I would suggest getting a slightly bigger helicopter first.

What model is the best mini RC helicopter? For indoor use...?

What model is the best mini RC helicopter? I want it for indoor use, and would like it to be able to hover. Of course battery life and operating time are also factors.

Answer
I bought the Air Hogs Apache Havoc Heli for my fiance, it was $25 on sale at Toys R Us, it comes with a little target that you can shoot with a laser. The target is shaped like a satellite, it blinks and make noise etc. It is a pretty cool toy, the charge runs down after a while but he has never been very bothered by it. The only thing I hate is that hair will get tangled in the tail rotor and it will break, but you can get replacements by calling their company that are cheap. It hovers well, the turning is a little hard but you get the hang of it. I also bought him the UFO one, but it is not as fun even though it has cool light up action. So, that is my review of that although I haven't played with any others.

What is gyroscope technology?

small rc helicopter gyro
on Syma S108G 3 5CH Channel Infrared Mini RC Helicopter Gyro
small rc helicopter gyro image
Q. There is an RC helicopter that has gyroscope technology and what does the gyroscope technology do? Does it make it hover better or fly faster? Anyone explain Thanks

Answer
Well one easy form of Gyroscope is a fast spinning mass that points at a fixed point in space. It is this feature that is exploited in all manor of devices and vehicles to allow a sense of feedback (electrical or mechanical) to allow the operator/device to know the relative angle between the device body and the gyro direction.
For instance, if a helicoptor is pointing due north and the gyro has spun up and is now stabalised and pointing at a fixed point in space, when the helicopter turns by a few degrees, the angle between the moving helicoptor and unmoved gyro can be measured. this electrical amount is then fed back to the yaw controller which instigates an equal and opposite movement to maintain the direction of the vehicle.
It can be used in all 3 axis of an airborne vehicle to maintain a steady attitude and heading.

The type of gyro used on your model will most likely be a piezo ring mounted on a fixed post. as the vehicle moves, the piezo material wants to stay still and a small force is applied to the material by the moving post. This force is converted into an electrical signal by the piezo properties of the ring material and is then fed back into the directional control system as described earlier. The whole ring, post and electronics of this device are very small and will probably be about 1" cubed.

The last type of gyro is the ring laser type. These are very expensive ($500,000). They rely on a laser emitting a beam that travels around a central point by means of deflecting mirrors. the time that is taken for the beam to travel the full circuit is measured and compared against a known stationary time. If the time is quicker, the aircraft is spinning against the rotation of the laser beam. If the time is slower, the aircraft is spinning with the direction of the beam.

Although, the model helicoptor manufacturers could be bending the truth slightly and claiming that it has gyroscopic technology, which could be as simple as describing the spinning rotors that act as a gyroscope!!!

Hope this helps

what is a good indoor RC helicopter?

Danny

Im looking for an indoor rc helicopter over the price of 60 euro and can be shipped to ireland, I would also like it to have the following,

1. 4ch,
2. Built in Gyro,
3. Made out of metal,
4. Durable so it wont break easily,
5. Decent battery life.

Thanks,
-Danny

Answer
Your criteria will be hard to find to those EXACT specifications. For a durable helicopter doesn't have to be made out of metal. I have plastic RC helicopters on which I fly inside and they have lasted a very long time.
One popular brand of helicopters is SYMA. They make good helicopters. I haven't had any personal experience with their products but I have heard and read very good reviews and feedback on them and have not yet come across any negative feedback.

I just bought a helicopter which is controlled from your iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad - or Android device.
It was just over $30AU, it's got a charge time of about 45min, which is charged from the USB port on your computer. And it flies for about 5-10minutes.
It also fires out little plastic missiles from the sides on command. It's got a range of about 15m.
It's around 7inches long and is 3ch.
The controlling is accomplished by a small infrared transmitter which plugs into the 3.5mm headphone jack in your Apple or Android device.

The name of this helicopter is a U809 Cobra, made by iHelicopter.

I hope this helps.

I've been a lover of ship and aircraft models for most of my life. But after seeing a Mi-24 RC model in action, I'm pretty interested in adding that to my collection. I don't have much engineering know how, so I feel that I need to buy a kit of some sort, but i can't find a place that sells them. Is it nonexistent or am I bad with google?

Answer
Its C. None of the above. Not all helicopters are scaled and made into an RC helicopter. Some people may have done it and you may have not found it. But that doesnt mean you did a bad job with google and its search engine. You could check Tower Hobbies or Horizon Hobbes. You could also try making it yourself. Thats how it is done. But usually if you have to start small with electric helicopters and work your way up to scaling and making your own helicopter body for the RC helicopter.

What should I get my brother and father for Christmas? Gift ideas please?

ok, so I need to know what to get both my dad and brother for christmas. My price limit is probably $20-$30 dollars each. My brother is 20 and my dad is in his late 40's. They both are huge michigan football fans but also have plenty of michigan things. they are also sports fans and exercise a lot. My brother goes to college and my dad is a business man.give me some gift ideas for them please. thanks a bunch and best answer gets 10 pts.

Answer
Get them a nice cologne! I'm sure both of you would enjoy it! Maybe Eternity by Calvin Klein? Or Acqua Di Gorgio? Maybe a nice 'For Men' cologne kit? Really, they WILL like it! I think Macy's still has their sale up too!

You could also get them like, maybe some roller skates or roller blades; get them into doing father son stuff.

Or some Swiss army knives! Any guy would like one of those!

Or maybe some tools? Like a small set of electric wood carvers and burners? They could build/make small plaques or carve then darken with the burn setting a picture! Get them creative! = )

Maybe if they like a certain TV show you could get them the first season?

You could start them on a hobby collection! Stamps, some rare coins... etc, etc!

There's always cool shark teeth pendants for guys!

You could get an African mask to hang in their room!

Or something from the Ed Hardy collection!

RC cars or helicopters never grow old despite your age! Get them that helicopter set where each helicopter is equipped with a laser. And when they are in the air the first helicopter ht by the other helicopter loses all power and falls to the ground! They also have that for tanks!

Or maybe two RC cars totally different from one another that they can race against each other to see which is the fastest!

Or maybe a nice pocket watch for each of them! With a cool design on the front!

Giftcards are always nice!

Do they use toothpicks a lot? You could get them a sleek silver toothpick holder with their initials engraved on it! That's what I got my brother in law last year! Here's the link: http://www.x-tremegeek.com/templates/SearchDetail.asp?productID=11481

Do they have a favorite candy? You could get their favorite candy in bulk at Amazon! I'm getting 5 lbs of sour patch kids this year!

Maybe some small 5 or 10 pound dumbells to go jogging with?

Once again, have a Merry Christmas and I hope you finally find something to buy them! = )

I have flow a mini in door helicopter and that is too easy and I need something to start with that is under $100. Please help I really want to get into this hobby but I've gotten way over my head.

Answer
HI there,

If you find the mini heli too easy i suggest you start with a 250 sized heli. that is not too big, can be flown indoors and even outdoors on easy days.
You could start with a 4 channel (not 3d).

In my experience this is a very good heli to start with:
http://www.rc-heli-review.com/rc-heli-reviews/walkera-hm-v200d02

Easy to fly, very easy and cheap to repair in case you crash it and there are lots of spare parts availible. ALs very strudy model so won't break down on a soft crash.

Good thing is that it's even flybarless wich makes for a superiour flying experience.
Make sure you get the hovering under control before you go all out on the sticks.

It's a little more expensive (150 dollars) but i'll last you a long time before you grow out of this model and you won't break it that easily. If you really want to get into this hobby start out with this one and then after a year you can always upgrade to something bigger and more agile.

Good Luck

i do trim it to the limit thah will turn left by its self, but still it flies on right circles.should it be like this?is it possible to fly straight?

Answer
It is possible.
But not likely.
I have worked on a dozen of them, and our RC group has has about 30 or more of them. A lot of fun if you get one that works. But we had a 50% failure rate. Fully half of them spin in circles forever.

There are some mechanical things you can check. The tail blades break easily. Just the smallest crack in the base of a blade will make the tail rotor less efficient. The kit comes with one replacement, and more can be purchased online.
Also, if a hair or thread, or even a piece of spider web gets wrapped up in the tail, it will not spin freely, and the heli will spin.

Good luck!

Hobbies for a sixteen year old boy?

Dante'

I'm 16 very athletic and play video games i was wondering what hobby i could start. Something that will consume my weekends. I was thinking either like lego building , making an rc helicopter, or something very technical like that. It also needs to not be expensive like around the $50 range.

Answer
Lego is probably too expensive. A decent collection probably has at least 10,000 bricks, and with each costing about $.10 each, the cost racks up fast.
If you have a good computer, you could get involved in programming, animating, or digital art. There are loads of powerful open-source programs available, so these can be free (at least, money wise) hobbies. However, expect to spend hours on the computer working, probably more time than you intend.
Another choice is Arduino. Arduino is a open-source programmable micro-controller, which makes circuitry really easy. If your're interested in making all sorts of cool things, this is the route to go. The basic kit costs about $30, and it's website has plenty of tutorials to get you started. However, components aren't very cheap, so you may want to consider this one carefully.
If you're restricted to a small amount of "computer time" each day (2 hours or less), you may want to choose a different route than the ones listed above.
Drawing is quite fun, and the results can be stunning. Be warned, there is a massive learning curve. You'll fail a LOT before you get good, so prepare yourself mentally. It's well worth the time.
All of these hobbies can be very rewarding, but you should always take care to leave time for school, work, friends, and yourself. Don't become a potato sitting in front of a screen. It's better to have a social life than have a cool hobby.

Answer
I've been wanting to buy one of those for a very long time. Based on my research, it's best if you get one that uses at least 3 channels with gyro. Also, make sure it uses RF radio and not Infrared because infrared won't work in direct sun light and you have to be within a relatively close range of the heli for it to work. Read the reviews and buy something durable or else your money is down the drain. Also, check on the battery life and whatnot. If the seller says the battery lasts for 10 minutes, it probably lasts 8 minutes.

Answer
The hardest part is finding something small enough to work with your helicopter. Most of the miniature spy cameras run on a 9 volt battery.

Is your helicopter strong enough to lift a 9 volt batter? How about two of them? You could try taping two batteries together (do NOT connect their terminals). If you can fly that around, you can probably find a good spy camera to use.

If you can't lift the batteries, then the costs for a wireless mini camera is going to go WAY up. Getting super tiny cameras is quite expensive.

My dad is going to be getting me something for Christmas, $85 limit. I want a rc helicopter. Ive only had cheap walmart ones before, so i need some expertise. Im wanting a namebrand fairly decent sized helicopter that will be able take some minor crashes. I did a little research and it seems that the Align T-Rex 250 is decent. Any ideas? Remember I have $85 to spend, including taxes and shipping.

Answer
I wouldn't recommend the Align T-Rex 250, and it's over the budget anyways? The smaller the helicopter, the more crashes it can resist, and the cheaper the replacement parts are. Just the battery looks like it's 3 times more expensive than a mini helicopter, and you will need extra batteries if you would like to fly for more than 10 minutes.

Do you have a radio/controller already? If you do, you could buy the BNF version of the helicopter and it will be cheaper. If you don't, then look for the RTF version that comes with a radio/controller.

The Blade MCX RTF is $80 at Horizon Hobby
http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/blade-mcx-rtf-EFLH2200
It's a coaxil heli, so you will have to fly it indoors and outdoors only when it's not too windy. It can take a good beating, better than the t-rex, and the parts are pretty cheap.

These 3 are some I have looked at while I was doing research about rc helicopters when I wanted to purchase one. These are fun, you won't be able to do 3D tricks with them though. It depends how many channels was the one you had, these are 3 channels and good practice.

The Syma S107 is $27 at amazon. It's a beginner helicopter, but it's small and reviews say it does good in taking crashes (4 out of 5 stars).

The Helizone Combat fighter 3.5 Channels looks fun. It's $36.99 on amazon, and you can look up videos on youtube.

The Syma S107C has a built in camera, and it's $39 on amazon.

I purchased the Nano CP X BNF, and a DX6i receiver, and depending your age and experience, this is not a beginner one. But it's just something to look for in the future if you want to get into the hobby. The heli cost me $160 online, and the reciever/controller (DX6i) cost me $70 USED.

You could also suggest to him to look on craigslist for used ones, don't be uptight about it and demand a new one if your father can't afford ones over $85. I bought the DX6i for my boyfriend from craigslist, and it came in original box and everything, for less than half the price, and he loves it anyways. You could find a used Blade MCX or MCX2 for a really good price, and if it's from a person that looks like it's their hobby, it will probably be very well taken care of.

you or your father should check out this forum's for sale threads:
http://www.helifreak.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6

you can also feel free to ask questions on there, or check out the "newbie" section for advice, there has been many people also asking for a beginner heli, so you can read the responses.

Don't try to get a "professional" type helicopter because for those you need to make a bigger investment than just the helicopter. For an advanced heli you need an advanced radio, not the ones it comes with, and you will need to purchase a simulator to practice on because crashing the helicopter will cost you a lot of money!

Goodluck and have fun :)

seth w

I have the replacement, but when I put it on, it spirals out of control. If I look at the original and the replacement, they look identical!

What is wrong and how can I fix it?

Answer
You need to make sure you have the tail rotor oriented correctly. It is possible to install a tail rotor backwards in some cases, which would just make your heli spin like crazy.

I could give you a better answer if I could see/knew exactly what type of tail rotor you have. However, generally the tail rotor must blow air to counter the rotation of your main rotor blades.

E.g.:
- if your main blades rotate clockwise
- tail rotor pushes the tail clockwise also

This stops the tail's tendancy to rotate counter to the direction of the main rotor blades.

Alternatively, depending on the type of heli, you may have issues with your tail gyro adjustment, tail gyro direction setting, or tail servo linkage adjustment.

Hope that helps

Q. The model is ... Cobra 3 channel mini helicopter X107 with gyro. I know that the top blades are spinning faster causeing the issue. But how do i fix it?

Answer
the top blade always spins faster than the bottom one (same with big lama 4ch co-axial helicopter, had one... and always broke the upper blade) so here's what you'll do:

if the helicopter spins in a crazy way to watever side, then:

go to the receiver, next to it there is a mixer, like 2 knobs that you can put a screw on it and move it, look carefully and move the "Proportion" knob left or right until the helicopter stops spinning.

if it spins slowly then:

look your transmitter, it has like little knobs that you can adjust left or right, they're called "Trim tabs" move the trim tab from your rudder left or right until the helicopter is steady.

if that's not the problem then it might be time to replace the motor of the upper blade.

if that's not the problem, go to www.rcgroups.com create an accout, post this question there and folks with waaay more experience than me will help you out.

Happy New Year!

Answer
I just recently got into the rc helicopters and purchased the ESky Lama V4. These mini copters are perfect for a beginner or novice who is looking for a unit that is easy to control. Another unit which is the sister to the Lama is the EFlite Blade CX and CX2. Both the Lama and the Blade are what are called coaxial units which give you effortless controlling. If you are looking for something a little more advanced, Both ESky and EFlite offer larger models that require a little more skill. All in all, most of these units will fall within your price range. Hope this helps!

How do you keep a stable flight?

Mike

I have a little Dyna Blade RC mini helicopter. I understand how trimming works and the controls but am wondering if there any tips that I can use to keep the helicopter stable. It seems to want to wander all over the place even when i'm trying to just hover and keep the tail in one place. Any suggestions?

Answer
well... not for that helicopter. I looked it up, and it seems to have only 2 channels? Is that correct? Coaxial helicopter? well... 2 or 3 channels, im positive its an coaxial helicopter. Tell me if im wrong, and i'll give you the proper information.

So you can't do much to stablise the helicopter. You could try adding an equal amount of tape on the tip of the helicopter blades. It helps stabilise the propellers, thus stabilising flight. But don't add too much... It could cause the helicopter to use more power and give you less flight times.

Another thing to do, is fly in a bigger space. If you are in a space room, the reflective wind will hit your helicopter, creating the helicopter to move in the direction of the wind.

Thats pretty much all I could tell you to do with the helicopter you have.

If the helicopter is new, and is not a 3 channel helicopter, I would suggest returning it and getting the Air Hogs Reflex. I had that helicopter, and it is amazing.

i do trim it to the limit thah will turn left by its self, but still it flies on right circles.should it be like this?is it possible to fly straight?

Answer
The best all around one is the Blade CX2. The replacement parts are cheap ($1 per blade) and available at your local rc hobby store. It also more than a toy it's four full channels and a good foot in the door for a collective pitch helicopter.

Answer
They are the drive gears to connect the motor to the rotor
The small pinion gears are connected to the motor shaft and the large main gears to the helicopter blade rotor shaft like this:

IF you need to replace them, this is what they will look like:

and i dont want it to run on batteries like my one.
thanks

Answer
sorry but your out of luck on this one

gas powered RC helicopters are generally $750+
their also not small in scale and can be very tempermental
but most are multichannel usually 3-4

you do have the advantage of RC heli experience so you won't need the beginners stand

check out your local RC shop and ask around you might get lucky and find someone willing to sell you theirs

Okay so I always wanted to do this, what do I need to make a RC airplane controlled by a computer and has like a camera attached for feedback? Is it possible to get mini jet engines? Is it possible for me to make a RC plane hover? If so how?

Answer
These things are all possible with enough $$. For example, check out http://www.cloudcaptech.com. The stuff is expensive, but it does what you want.

There are mini jet engines in the world, but they are extremely expensive, heavy and complicated for an RC aircraft, and they fly much too fast. I think what you really want is something that *looks* like a jet engine but is really a propeller. Those are called ducted fans, and they are small, cheap and easy to get from any RC model shop.

Any RC plane can hover if it has enough power--just point the plane straight up and give it throttle. If thrust>weight, it can hover. Hovering with the nose level (like a Harrier) is harder--it would require a dedicated lift fan, which I've never seen on an RC plane. In principle it could be done, though. But why not just build a helicopter?

What do you look for in a RC helicopter that is able to go left and right, back and forth.?

Thang D

My cheap one only flys up and down depending how much power you supply it. I am think it has to do with the # of channel. Can you recommend somthing that is cheap. Thanks

Answer
I have just recently ventured into the RC Helicopter world. For my first heli I decided on an ESky Lama V4 which is what they call a coaxial heli. It has two sets of main blades stacked on top of each other turning in opposite directions & no tail rotor. It offers up & down(of course), sway left & sway right, forward & backwards, and spin left & spin right. After researching them a bit I found that the coaxial heli is perfect for beginners and novice pilots due to the controls being very easy to learn and master. This unit came with a flight simulator that allows you to fly right on your computer using the actual remote for the heli. It also came with a training kit to help aid in first time flights and landings. All this cost me about $85.00. It is a nice sized heli for still being considered a mini. It measures about 16" long and about 7" tall.
There is a another helicopter made by EFlite called the Blade CX and CX2. These are very close in comparison to the Lama but with a little higher price at about $120.00. Both are very nice helis and look great! Also both of these helis are easily upgraded to allow for individual tinkering and likes if your brother decides he really likes the RC helicopter as a hobby. Oh, I forgot to mention........ both of these are electric helis and can be flown indoors as well as outdoors. Hope this helps!

What kind of rc helicopter should I be getting?

Chance

Goodluck and have fun :)

whatis the difference between 3channel and 4channel rc helicopter?

Lito T

this is for hobby , remote control helicopter

Answer
Hi Lito,
A typical 3 channel heli has throttle, yaw and pitch.
Throttle makes the heli go up and down.
Yaw makes the heli turn left and right.
Pitch makes the heli lean forward and back (making the heli fly forwards and backwards).

A 4 channel heli adds roll.
Roll makes a heli lean left and right (making the heli fly sideways to the left and right)

That addresses your question, but I recommend this additional reading:

I thought it would be great if my spouse and I could transport bottles or cans to each other using one of those radio-controlled indoor helicopters or some other flying indoor RC type toy. Do you think they make one with strong enough lifting power to get that beer from one couch to the other?

Answer
No, but the real question is whether you think you're a good enough pilot that your spouse would want something with blades spinning that fast that close to his/her head/hand.

where can I have my dragonfly R/C electric radio controlled helicopter serviced?

david3flus

I have an older dragonfly 4 channel, electric powered, radio controlled, helicopter, I purchased it back in 2004. During my last crash the pinion gear came off the tail motor, and was lost, the motor however still works fine. I have prechased a new tail motor with pinion gear, it is for the new Walker Dragonfly model #4, not the older Dragonfly 4 channel helicopter that I have. It is longer, heavier, and the magnet is much more powerful, will the replacement motor work, on my older Dragonfly helicopter ? Or will I have to find a replacment pinion gear, for the original tail motor? If so where could a replacement pinion gear be found?

Answer
Possibly radio shack.
