Rc heli, beginner???

harness

So I'm pretty new to the RC experience. I have flown a couple mini RC helicopters before, but none like this. I am thinking about getting the Double Horse 9116. It seems like a fair price and had solid reviews. My main goals are to eventually fly to some higher altitudes (maybe 75meters) for cool pics, and just learn how to fly a 4 ch heli. I have two main questions. #1 is, does anybody have any experience with this heli? My second question is, What camera could i attach to it? I have a kodak zi8 which all mounted would weight about 115 grams. Seems pretty obvious that it would be too much for a 245gram heli. So what keychain camera could be best (maybe a live stream :) Preferably off amazon. Also, Is it true that the bettery is terrible.

Answer
A 10 minute battery is actually pretty good.

I personally would go with something like the Exceed MCP-X. You still have the gyro stab, and it is a light helicopter so the parts don't have as much inertia when they hit something solid. Bigger helicopters are far more likely to break when they crash.

Beginers RC Helicopter?

Adam

I'm looking into buying my first Heli, I have been advised to start with atleast 4 channels.

I was looking at the Esky Honey Bee CP3

What do you guys reccomend I start out with, Nitro or Electric.

I have a budget of around £100

Answer
I would definitely stay away from Nitro as a beginner. It adds a whole level of complexity to the hobby. There are so many great starter Mini Heli kits out there to get your feet wet. Get a small one so when you crash it (and you will), it will be cheap to fix and not a huge financial loss. Check out these kits:

Yeah It's a good deal,great price.
There are a number of posts about this V911 in rcgroups, the first outdoor mini RC helicopter, and the price $44.99 is the lowest over the online shops I've ever known.

How do I Make a RC Remote?

Alex

I lost the remote for a Brookstone Silver Bullet helicopter. I know that it's not a big deal, but I don't just want to throw it away. If you don't know the answer, can you think of some creative ways I could use the parts of the helicopter? By the way, this helicopter still works perfectly and the romote uses an infrared senser. Thanks!

Answer
You could try contacting Brookstone and see if you could by an extra remote. Or, since they seem cheap ($29.99) just buy a whole new helicopter/control, and then you'd have an "extra" helicopter for parts. http://www.brookstone.com/mini-remote-control-rc-helicopters

Trying to build your own remote would be next to impossible (unless you're an electronics engineer, in which case why are you asking?)

Another possibility is to try a different brand of helicopter, such as the Blade series helicopters from Eflite. They are quite a bit more expensive, but they use what is called "Bind N Fly" technology which allows you to use better transmitters for the helicopter if you wish. As well as the Blade helicopters are fully repairable down to the last little screw or bit of plastic. I have the predecessor to the mSR X, and I love it. Tough as can be, challenging to fly (if you've never flown a heli before) but once I learned how to do it, it is tons of fun.

the Blade mCX coaxial helicopter (similar to your Brookstone in that it is coaxial)
http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/blade-mcx-rtf-EFLH2200
or
the Blade mSR X which is a single main rotor with a working tail rotor. Harder to fly, but much more realistic looking.

i have recently(an hour ago) purchased a miniature rc helicopter ( syma s109g apache). it had a decent flight time and found flying it challenging yet very enjoyalable. i have no experience with rc helicopters prior to this helicopter. the heli also has two LEDs which i think is an unnescesary waste of battery power which could be used to increase flight time. So....my question(s) is/are
1)how do i safely remove the led lights without causing a short circuit?
2) do i need components like resistors and uf so, what ohm or unit should it be(there are 2 leds) and how do i connect the circuit without a solderung tool but i do have a hot glue gun
3) how do i generally increase flight time or reduce recharge time?im not to sure of what battery it uses

i will be very grateful for any information you guys can provide. links to related websites would really help. And i apologize if u had trouble undersanding wat im trying to say. enlish isnt my strongest subject :p

heres the link to the website of the heli
http://www.symahelicopters.com/Syma-S109G-Gyro-3-Ch-Mini-Apache-AH-64-Helicopter-p/eh-symas109g.htm

Answer
I suggest not messing with the hot glue gun and leaving the LEDs as-is. They don't consume much battery power at all. They do let you know when the helicopter is powered, even if the throttle is not activated. This is important to know when charging the helicopter because the heli itself is supposed to be turned off when charging.

Easiest way to increase flight time for something as inexpensive as this model is probably to just get a second one. Fly one and done, then fly second one.

looking for a mini rc helicopter?

shor_d_ing

i used to have a cheap mini rc helicopter and it was not very stable. it quickly was misplaced.
the other day a friend was playing with his new mini heli and it was extremely stable and easy to fly. he said it was a syma. i don't know what model but it was the metal frame.

im wondering if there is any other helis like this out there that are better, his budget was 50 bucks where im willing to spend more. any suggestions?

Answer
DUDE you have to check out the Z-Series Z008 Micro Helicopter w/Gyr !! this is a bad a$$ mini helicopter!! with LED lights

http://www.jatoytown.com/Z-Series-Z008-Micro-Helicopter-wGyro--As-low-as-3382_p_108.html

Its 4ch and VERY VERY VERY stable in the air with an all alloy body! Those cheap plastic 2ch and 3 ch helicopters are very unstable in the air.

This one on the other hand is one of the most stable I have seen for its size. With the hover blades you can even move it side to side which is awesome for a rc helicopter.

the retail on these are 89.99 but tell you what. use coupon code clist30 and that will give you 30% off the entire order which will make that helicopter around 60.00 which is a killer deal for that brand.

There is even a youtube video there on how that little guy flies. Check it out and let me know what you think..

There are other helicopters there too but as far as best mini one, this one takes the cake.

Hope this helps

how can i stabilize my mini rc helicopter?

Jesse

i just got a new mini rc helicopter, and it keeps spinning when i get it into the air

Answer
It is very difficult to stabilise a mini rc helicopter. You can try adjusting by giving more power to the tail rotor in the opposite direction of the spin.

What is your definition of "fastest"? Also, front and sideways as in use of ailerons and elevator?
What do you mean by cheapest? Like $40 cheapest? $200?

Usually the fastest helicopter that is modded for a low price costs about $189.99 without the mods. You could make it go about 20 MPH. This is the Co-Axial helicopter.

The helicopter is the E-Flite Blade CX2.

Where can you buy or make a computer controlled RC helicopter with realtime video?

Where can you buy or make a computer controlled RC helicopter with realtime video? I can make it or buy but I don't know where to find it.

Answer
Computer controlled is really hard to make and you will have to know a lot about or just know a person who does electrical engineering to build your own system.

What I would suggest you do is to get a RC helicopter that is very stable to fly like this http://www.xheli.com/50h33-warhawk300-q4-comancheblue.html. This is a coaxial helicopter, it's hover by itself and you wouldn't need to worry much about it. The reason I would use a big one is because there would be more space to store a camera. Most of the cheap coaxial helicopter are only made from plastic with no metal bearings and can only fly up and down anyway.

After you have your copter set up, something like this will help you:
http://hackedgadgets.com/2005/08/10/computer-controlled-rc-helicopter/
http://www.endurance-rc.com/pctx.html <buy an adapter to connect to your transmitter, it should come with software
Note: You may have to re-program the controls in order to control your helicopter from computer.

For the camera, get something like a mini helicopter cam like http://www.xheli.com/72p-90-carcam.html or http://www.xheli.com/72p-52-voicecam.html. Get a electrician to help you design a wireless connection system between your computer and the camera. OR buy a wireless camera out of a shop that can fit into your heli. This website has the technology you talk about: http://www.geekalerts.com/real-time-video-rc-helicopter/

What you may want to search up is UAV helicopter designs. Many people use bluetooth to control their helicopter but I would stick to radio transmitter.

why is it so hard to fly this mini rc helicopter. can anyone give me any tips or show me a vid so i can learn?

Neil J

Answer
Sorry you're having difficulties... but as Super-Sabre said, helicopters are difficult to fly... fixed-wing fliers love to refer to them as a collection of parts flying in close formation.

I'm not an RC guy, but I AM a former helicopter crewman with 5000+ hours in the back and 224 hours flying up front.

The FIRST (and hardest) thing to learn is to hover: Apply power to get the bird light on the skids while applying tail rotor to keep the nose pointed straight. Raise the bird to about 2 feet.... and hold it there using SMALL control inputs. Next you learn to raise it to a stable hover and TURN the nose left and right to the major points of the clock: 3, 6, 9, and noon. Next you learn to side-slip the bird around a box (lets say with 10 foot sides).... first, pointing in ONE direction, and then with the nose always pointed inward.

I wish I could find a video, but I'm not an RC kinda guy... just a former pilot. GOOD LUCK

whats the best micro and mini sized heilcopter with the best gyro?

spartain00

and is about under a foot and at lest have replaceable parts or upgradeable parts

Answer
I always try to steer people away from cheap Chinese junk like Syma... But I have to admit the price is right. Just keep in mind that this is really a disposable helicopter. The quality control is horrendous and you will get no support from the manufacturer. Yes, some spare parts are available, but the design and engineering that goes into these cheap toys leaves a lot to be desired. As a for instance, the speed controls on Syma copters do not have any sort of LiPo cut off, so it can be very easy to ruin the battery.

For just $30 more you can get a true hobby grade helicopter with real manufacturer support if something goes wrong. For micro look at the Blade Scout: http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/blade-scout-rtf-3-ch-heli-BLH2700

For mini's, you have a lot more choices. Align makes some really fine helicopters, as does Blade. In my opinion, one of the better quality of the minis:
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/cPath/2_382_707/products_id/220852/n/Align-T-Rex-100X-Super-Combo-Electric-RTF-Micro-Helicopter-Kit

Here is a list of quite a few micro's and minis:
http://www.amainhobbies.com/index.php?cPath=2_382_707&n=RC-Helicopters-Kits-Micro-Mini&sort=prl&filter_mfr=

Lastly, I would suggest purchasing a copter at a local hobby shop. That way you'll have local parts support and won't be waiting for the mail to arrive with a replacement part. You can just drive down the road and pick it up the same day if something breaks. A broken copter sitting on the workbench waiting for parts isn't much fun. Not to mention almost every hobby shop will have a knowledgeable person behind the counter to ask questions!

Answer
As a fair but not great r/c heli pilot who owns a dozen or so helicopters, here's my $0.02 worth.

Your first decision is what type of heli to buy. There are three types in the batch you've listed above; co-axial (two counter-rotating main blades like the Walkera 5#10 above), fixed pitch (like the Falcon 40), or 3D (which most of your proposed heli's are ... like the EXI 450LE)

I have and have flown helicopters like each of these. Here's my take:

Co-axial: easiest to fly and cheap, but limited in that they can't perform prolonged forward flight or any acrobatics

Fixed pitch: harder to fly, cheap, no acrobatics

3D (Collective Pitch): harder to fly, most expensive and hardest to set up, but most versitile (with practice, these can do anything)

I'd recommend:

Co-axial: if you go this route, I'd buy an E-Flight Blade MCX. It's tiny, perfect for flying around the house, and is AMAZINGLY stable (even for a coaxial heli). If you want something a little bigger, try either the E-Flight Blade CX2 or E-Sky Co-Lama V4.

Fixed Pitch: I'd skip it...

3D: For starting out I'd go with the Eflight Blade 400 because it has relatively inexpensive replacement parts. Alternatively, I consider the Thunder Tiger Mini-Titan E325 or the Align TRex 450. All of these are well built, are widely available, and have lots of dealers stocking parts.
Bear in mind that all of these are sold in varrying degrees of completion... all need a motor, speed controler, battery, 3 cyclic servos, gyro and tail servo. These electronics can run $$, so don't get sucked in by something that costs $60 (and may cost $400 to complete). Read the fine print and understand what quality components you're buying (I ended up replacing all the servos, gyro, and battery on my first heli within weeks).

Also, if you're going to go all-in along the 3D route, start by buying yourself a decent transmitter that you can grow with. I'd recommend the Specktrum DX7 (great) or JR9303 2.4Ghz (best) if you have the cash (if not the Specktrum DX6i is good too).

Finally, buiding these things (other than the coaxial helis) can be a bit tricky and set-up is critical if you want to successfully fly. I'd spend some time on the r/c heli boards (runryder and helifever are good) and/or find a local hobby shop that caters to heli pilots.

Ok, that's it... good luck!

Hello. Sorry, but you bought a cheap rip off helicopter from the actual PicooZ or Air Hogs Havoc. The Mini Hughes 300 is poorly made. You may have a receiver chip error or some sort. It can not be fixed unless you know your stuff. So... I would suggest returning it.

Ps> I got the hair out of the taill rudder and it still does the same thing and i dont want to spend more money on another if i dont have to so can anyone plez help me. Thanx

Answer
Which heli is it? That will help us help you.

If it is one of the bottom end 2 channel helis like the Picco Z or the Havoc, then besides hair, there are 2 more things that will cause this.
1. The tail blade has a crack in it. It inly takes a very small crack to make the tail less effective and it spins. Most models come with a replacement tail blade in the package.
2. You have a defective heli. Of the 30 or so models that I and my fellow RC club member purchased, fully 50% failed in the way you describe, out of the box.

You can also ask on the dedicated RC heli forums:

What about rc heli at gigxon.com ? Is this a 6010? Is reliable Gigxon? Has Anyone bought there?

Q. Is this a rc helic 6010? http://www.gigxon.com/infrared-control-3-ch-gyro-led-light-rc-helicopter_p2523.html
I'm trying to find where to get one. I search these rc store sites for '6010' and don't have much luck.
Don't want an ebay deal, would feel more comfortable with a larger 'dealextream-y' type Hong Kong outfit. So far gixon sounds good but I can't tell if it's a real 6010 (other than it says 'Pheonix' on the side)...also maybe others have a better place to get them. Any help would be really appreciated...want to get an order in somewhere so I can have two machines flying before I break my lovely s107...

Answer
Frankly, I konwn gigxon and bought the mini heli from this website by chance although it's 6010 but U803 which just cost $23.79 . Since the helicopter i bought is cheap and free shipping to me . So I decided to get one after I read some discussions on a profesional RC forum about this website's helicoputer. You can take a look at the discussions on this forum. I hope it can help you.

What kind of rc helicopter should i get?

I have Absolutely no experience and was wondering what i should get as my first helicopter. i don't want to spend more than $75 or $80 so i was wondering if it is even possible to get a good one if that's the most i can spend. Right now i was looking at the New Esky 2.4G Nano RTF 4 Channel Mini Helicopter. is it good? like i said i have no idea so please help!

Answer
I've been wanting to buy one of those for a very long time. Based on my research, it's best if you get one that uses at least 3 channels with gyro. Also, make sure it uses RF radio and not Infrared because infrared won't work in direct sun light and you have to be within a relatively close range of the heli for it to work. Read the reviews and buy something durable or else your money is down the drain. Also, check on the battery life and whatnot. If the seller says the battery lasts for 10 minutes, it probably lasts 8 minutes.

I don't want anything TOO too fancy, just a really reliable precision RC helicopter no longer than 20". The most I'm willing to spend is $250.

If you really want a durable model i suggest you go for the Syma S107, practically indestructible and one of the best micro heli's out there for that kind of money.

Check:

One of the best sold heli's and that is not for a reason, it's simply the best quality mini heli out there.

Good Luck.

rc helicopter first buy?

ralph

Hi there ,

I am wanting to buy a nice and good RC helicopter from Walkera ...
I was looking at three different models and wish your opinion

1. Walkera 4G3
2. Walkera 4G6
3. Walkera HM 1#

Also the Radio the WK 2602 seemed like a nice buy , the radio that are sold in Sets seem to be cheaper to purchase than buying heli separate and Radio separate , is this a fact ?

I am not an advanced user but have some 4 channel experience , but let that not deter you from your professional (if possible ) advise , I am looking which of these three or similar are good flying helicopter with little issues...

I was looking to spend around 250~400 USD ..

Thank you

Ralph

Answer
I've been flying RC Helicopters for years and have tested out all of these models. Out of all the ones that you listed, the Walkera 4G3 is going to fly the best for the price. If you already have 4 channel experience, then flying this chopper is going to be a breeze.

Also, I always buy my helicopters from the same site. These guys always seems to have the best prices every time I do shopping around the Internet.

Right now they have the Walkera 4G3 listed for $373, which is actually a great price for that helicopter.

Let me know how everything works out, and good luck with your new helicopter!

anybody from Wuhan? I want to buy a R/C helicopter, could you help me? What is the price?

Answer
Wuhan, China? If so here's a site that sells RC products in China including helicopters...

http://bbs.rcfans.com/index.php

RC helicopters aren't cheap first of all...They start at around 50 U.S. dollars on up to a 1,000 bucks! (here in the U.S anyways...I don't think you'll see much difference elsewhere) A decent one will be about 300 U.S. dollars.

Secondly the shipping is usually outrageous...I went to order one for my husband's birthday and the shipping was $40! (which is highway robbery!!! LOL) The upside is, is that a beginners heli will be cheaper than the rest and will give you entertainment for quite a long time before you "grow out of it" and need something more special...

P.S. You can shave more money by looking into mini RC helicopters...Not only are they less expensive but once you get good you can fly them in the house! ;D

Good luck!

P.S.S. Another great site straight out of China that has helicopters...

What kind of rc helicopter should I be getting?

Chance

My dad is going to be getting me something for Christmas, $85 limit. I want a rc helicopter. Ive only had cheap walmart ones before, so i need some expertise. Im wanting a namebrand fairly decent sized helicopter that will be able take some minor crashes. I did a little research and it seems that the Align T-Rex 250 is decent. Any ideas? Remember I have $85 to spend, including taxes and shipping.

Answer
I wouldn't recommend the Align T-Rex 250, and it's over the budget anyways? The smaller the helicopter, the more crashes it can resist, and the cheaper the replacement parts are. Just the battery looks like it's 3 times more expensive than a mini helicopter, and you will need extra batteries if you would like to fly for more than 10 minutes.

Do you have a radio/controller already? If you do, you could buy the BNF version of the helicopter and it will be cheaper. If you don't, then look for the RTF version that comes with a radio/controller.

The Blade MCX RTF is $80 at Horizon Hobby
http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/blade-mcx-rtf-EFLH2200
It's a coaxil heli, so you will have to fly it indoors and outdoors only when it's not too windy. It can take a good beating, better than the t-rex, and the parts are pretty cheap.

These 3 are some I have looked at while I was doing research about rc helicopters when I wanted to purchase one. These are fun, you won't be able to do 3D tricks with them though. It depends how many channels was the one you had, these are 3 channels and good practice.

The Syma S107 is $27 at amazon. It's a beginner helicopter, but it's small and reviews say it does good in taking crashes (4 out of 5 stars).

The Helizone Combat fighter 3.5 Channels looks fun. It's $36.99 on amazon, and you can look up videos on youtube.

The Syma S107C has a built in camera, and it's $39 on amazon.

I purchased the Nano CP X BNF, and a DX6i receiver, and depending your age and experience, this is not a beginner one. But it's just something to look for in the future if you want to get into the hobby. The heli cost me $160 online, and the reciever/controller (DX6i) cost me $70 USED.

You could also suggest to him to look on craigslist for used ones, don't be uptight about it and demand a new one if your father can't afford ones over $85. I bought the DX6i for my boyfriend from craigslist, and it came in original box and everything, for less than half the price, and he loves it anyways. You could find a used Blade MCX or MCX2 for a really good price, and if it's from a person that looks like it's their hobby, it will probably be very well taken care of.

you or your father should check out this forum's for sale threads:
http://www.helifreak.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6

you can also feel free to ask questions on there, or check out the "newbie" section for advice, there has been many people also asking for a beginner heli, so you can read the responses.

Don't try to get a "professional" type helicopter because for those you need to make a bigger investment than just the helicopter. For an advanced heli you need an advanced radio, not the ones it comes with, and you will need to purchase a simulator to practice on because crashing the helicopter will cost you a lot of money!

Goodluck and have fun :)

What is the best beginner RC helicopter? ?

I bought a double horse 9100 and I think it is way to advanced to for me. What do you guys think? I already cracked the head cover and a decorative bar is gone (does that matter?) I have flow a mini in door helicopter and that is too easy and I need something to start with that is under $100. Please help I really want to get into this hobby but I've gotten way over my head.

Answer
HI there,

If you find the mini heli too easy i suggest you start with a 250 sized heli. that is not too big, can be flown indoors and even outdoors on easy days.
You could start with a 4 channel (not 3d).

In my experience this is a very good heli to start with:
http://www.rc-heli-review.com/rc-heli-reviews/walkera-hm-v200d02

Easy to fly, very easy and cheap to repair in case you crash it and there are lots of spare parts availible. ALs very strudy model so won't break down on a soft crash.

Good thing is that it's even flybarless wich makes for a superiour flying experience.
Make sure you get the hovering under control before you go all out on the sticks.

It's a little more expensive (150 dollars) but i'll last you a long time before you grow out of this model and you won't break it that easily. If you really want to get into this hobby start out with this one and then after a year you can always upgrade to something bigger and more agile.

Good Luck

How do i fix a spinning rc helicopter?

Q. The model is ... Cobra 3 channel mini helicopter X107 with gyro. I know that the top blades are spinning faster causeing the issue. But how do i fix it?

Answer
the top blade always spins faster than the bottom one (same with big lama 4ch co-axial helicopter, had one... and always broke the upper blade) so here's what you'll do:

if the helicopter spins in a crazy way to watever side, then:

go to the receiver, next to it there is a mixer, like 2 knobs that you can put a screw on it and move it, look carefully and move the "Proportion" knob left or right until the helicopter stops spinning.

if it spins slowly then:

look your transmitter, it has like little knobs that you can adjust left or right, they're called "Trim tabs" move the trim tab from your rudder left or right until the helicopter is steady.

if that's not the problem then it might be time to replace the motor of the upper blade.

if that's not the problem, go to www.rcgroups.com create an accout, post this question there and folks with waaay more experience than me will help you out.

Happy New Year!

What do you think of this new clone RTF RC Helicopter?

skimmer21

It is a 4CH 2.4GHz Mini Radio Single Propeller RC Helicopter Gyro V911 that can be flown outdoors. Here is an interesting Gyro Helicopter review http://www.radiocontrolledhelicopters.co/gyro-helicopter-review/. Does anyone know or do you agree with this review?

HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!?

Sarcastic

i have recently(an hour ago) purchased a miniature rc helicopter ( syma s109g apache). it had a decent flight time and found flying it challenging yet very enjoyalable. i have no experience with rc helicopters prior to this helicopter. the heli also has two LEDs which i think is an unnescesary waste of battery power which could be used to increase flight time.
