Answer
As a fair but not great r/c heli pilot who owns a dozen or so helicopters, here's my $0.02 worth.

Your first decision is what type of heli to buy. There are three types in the batch you've listed above; co-axial (two counter-rotating main blades like the Walkera 5#10 above), fixed pitch (like the Falcon 40), or 3D (which most of your proposed heli's are ... like the EXI 450LE)

I have and have flown helicopters like each of these. Here's my take:

Co-axial: easiest to fly and cheap, but limited in that they can't perform prolonged forward flight or any acrobatics

Fixed pitch: harder to fly, cheap, no acrobatics

3D (Collective Pitch): harder to fly, most expensive and hardest to set up, but most versitile (with practice, these can do anything)

I'd recommend:

Co-axial: if you go this route, I'd buy an E-Flight Blade MCX. It's tiny, perfect for flying around the house, and is AMAZINGLY stable (even for a coaxial heli). If you want something a little bigger, try either the E-Flight Blade CX2 or E-Sky Co-Lama V4.

Fixed Pitch: I'd skip it...

3D: For starting out I'd go with the Eflight Blade 400 because it has relatively inexpensive replacement parts. Alternatively, I consider the Thunder Tiger Mini-Titan E325 or the Align TRex 450. All of these are well built, are widely available, and have lots of dealers stocking parts.
Bear in mind that all of these are sold in varrying degrees of completion... all need a motor, speed controler, battery, 3 cyclic servos, gyro and tail servo. These electronics can run $$, so don't get sucked in by something that costs $60 (and may cost $400 to complete). Read the fine print and understand what quality components you're buying (I ended up replacing all the servos, gyro, and battery on my first heli within weeks).

Also, if you're going to go all-in along the 3D route, start by buying yourself a decent transmitter that you can grow with. I'd recommend the Specktrum DX7 (great) or JR9303 2.4Ghz (best) if you have the cash (if not the Specktrum DX6i is good too).

Finally, buiding these things (other than the coaxial helis) can be a bit tricky and set-up is critical if you want to successfully fly. I'd spend some time on the r/c heli boards (runryder and helifever are good) and/or find a local hobby shop that caters to heli pilots.

Ok, that's it... good luck!

Hi,
im working on a project, which includes using 2-3 wireless mini video cam attached on a RC helicopter. is there a transmitter/receiver(whats the diff between them) that can be used to control the 3 cams that wont interfere with each others signals to the laptop for multi display which if theres a transmitter/reciever that can be connected via USB? is it possible?

Answer
This sounds like a project you wont be capable of completing without better knowledge of the electronics you are using... A transmitter transmits a radio wave whereas a receiver receives it. And yes it could be used if you know how to wire and mount them properly.

Whats a good starter electric rc helicopter?

Q. I'm looking to get into the hobby of rc helicopters and was looking for some suggestions on what to buy. Thanks.

Answer
one might be a mini one or go and see the 3 channel and check your nearest hobby town and see what size you think you could Handel. I wouldn't go for over a 30" helicopter because its way easier to fly than a big one. try putting a camera on it too it the pics look so cool

Yes you can easily but buying the mini camera is quite expensive and if your rc helicopter crashes you wouldn't be so fortunate. You can by cheap cameras but they lack in quality.

Which Micro Collective Pitch RC Helicopter is better?

Jon

Looking mainly at 2 nano CP Helicopters, the Blade Nano CPX and the Walkera Mini CP 6. I've heard good and bad about both, if anyone personally owns either of these Heli's can you give me some of your own list of Pros and Cons? Also I have only flown FP Heli's and heard the Micro class is best to learn 3D flying. Thanks!

Answer
actually I own both Walkera Mini CP 6 is better in my opnion Walkera is beter

Things I like with the Mini CP.
1. The landing gear is separate from the frame.
2. Servos are mounted very secure and are very close to the main shaft
3. RX mounted vertically. No foam between the RX and frame mount.
4. Canopy mounts with two separate CF rods.

About the Blade Nano CPX
The Cool
Price is great
Cheap and easy repairs
Incredibly durable, lasting and fun to play

Not cool
Charger does not come with power supply (typical)
No brushless motors stock

Remote Control Helicopter Question?

mini rc helicopters amazon image

So I recently got 2 of these helicopters (Diamond Force Ultra Durable Mini RC Helicopter) http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Force-Helicopter-Gyroscope-Infrared/dp/B0069G3L5U . Both work amazingly but one of the remotes that came with them doesn't seem to be working at all. (I can use the one remote to control one or the other or both helis at once but the other controller wont sync with either of the helis no matter what I do. (and yes i have tried changing the channels)

My question is will I be able to buy one of these http://www.helipal.com/jxdcobra-z-05-remote-controller.html and be able to use both helis at once? or will I have to buy another remote somewhere else? If so where can I get such a remote?

It is my understanding that one can use any ir remote for any heli... is this true?

Answer
i had some before that did, and some that didnt.
i now have blade helicopter, and i absolutely love it. its like 50 on amazon and its red. you outta look into it. its uper easy to fly too.

Rc heli, beginner???

harness

So I'm pretty new to the RC experience. I have flown a couple mini RC helicopters before, but none like this. I am thinking about getting the Double Horse 9116. It seems like a fair price and had solid reviews. My main goals are to eventually fly to some higher altitudes (maybe 75meters) for cool pics, and just learn how to fly a 4 ch heli. I have two main questions. #1 is, does anybody have any experience with this heli? My second question is, What camera could i attach to it? I have a kodak zi8 which all mounted would weight about 115 grams. Seems pretty obvious that it would be too much for a 245gram heli. So what keychain camera could be best (maybe a live stream :) Preferably off amazon. Also, Is it true that the bettery is terrible.

Answer
A 10 minute battery is actually pretty good.

I personally would go with something like the Exceed MCP-X. You still have the gyro stab, and it is a light helicopter so the parts don't have as much inertia when they hit something solid. Bigger helicopters are far more likely to break when they crash.

What is gyroscope technology?

small rc helicopter gyro
on Three-axis Gyro Flybarless Control System Mini 3D RC Helicopter ...
small rc helicopter gyro image
Q. There is an RC helicopter that has gyroscope technology and what does the gyroscope technology do? Does it make it hover better or fly faster? Anyone explain Thanks

Answer
Well one easy form of Gyroscope is a fast spinning mass that points at a fixed point in space. It is this feature that is exploited in all manor of devices and vehicles to allow a sense of feedback (electrical or mechanical) to allow the operator/device to know the relative angle between the device body and the gyro direction.
For instance, if a helicoptor is pointing due north and the gyro has spun up and is now stabalised and pointing at a fixed point in space, when the helicopter turns by a few degrees, the angle between the moving helicoptor and unmoved gyro can be measured. this electrical amount is then fed back to the yaw controller which instigates an equal and opposite movement to maintain the direction of the vehicle.
It can be used in all 3 axis of an airborne vehicle to maintain a steady attitude and heading.

The type of gyro used on your model will most likely be a piezo ring mounted on a fixed post. as the vehicle moves, the piezo material wants to stay still and a small force is applied to the material by the moving post. This force is converted into an electrical signal by the piezo properties of the ring material and is then fed back into the directional control system as described earlier. The whole ring, post and electronics of this device are very small and will probably be about 1" cubed.

The last type of gyro is the ring laser type. These are very expensive ($500,000). They rely on a laser emitting a beam that travels around a central point by means of deflecting mirrors. the time that is taken for the beam to travel the full circuit is measured and compared against a known stationary time. If the time is quicker, the aircraft is spinning against the rotation of the laser beam. If the time is slower, the aircraft is spinning with the direction of the beam.

Although, the model helicoptor manufacturers could be bending the truth slightly and claiming that it has gyroscopic technology, which could be as simple as describing the spinning rotors that act as a gyroscope!!!

Hope this helps

what is a good indoor RC helicopter?

Danny

Im looking for an indoor rc helicopter over the price of 60 euro and can be shipped to ireland, I would also like it to have the following,

1. 4ch,
2. Built in Gyro,
3. Made out of metal,
4. Durable so it wont break easily,
5. Decent battery life.

Thanks,
-Danny

Answer
Your criteria will be hard to find to those EXACT specifications. For a durable helicopter doesn't have to be made out of metal. I have plastic RC helicopters on which I fly inside and they have lasted a very long time.
One popular brand of helicopters is SYMA. They make good helicopters. I haven't had any personal experience with their products but I have heard and read very good reviews and feedback on them and have not yet come across any negative feedback.

I just bought a helicopter which is controlled from your iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad - or Android device.
It was just over $30AU, it's got a charge time of about 45min, which is charged from the USB port on your computer. And it flies for about 5-10minutes.
It also fires out little plastic missiles from the sides on command. It's got a range of about 15m.
It's around 7inches long and is 3ch.
The controlling is accomplished by a small infrared transmitter which plugs into the 3.5mm headphone jack in your Apple or Android device.

The name of this helicopter is a U809 Cobra, made by iHelicopter.

I hope this helps.

can Remote Radio Control RC MINI Helicopter fly outside in the sun?

mini rc helicopter longest flight time
on Rc Helicopter 4 Channel | Buy RC Helicopters
mini rc helicopter longest flight time image

MR.S

I wanted to buy a "3 Channel Remote Radio Control RC MINI Helicopter HR" but I am not sure if it can fly outside in the sun, it also says: Controlled by digital technology. Infra red control system .
Does anyone know whats the infra red control system?

Answer
No, the 3 Channel Helicopter you are deciding to purchase can NOT be flown outside if there is sun. The sun disrupts the Infrared beam that is sent to your helicopter.

The range of an IR signal is usually limited to around 30 feet or less. Infrared, also called optical control or opti-control, requires line-of-sight, that is, the LED on the IR transmitter must be pointing at the IR receiver in order to work. It doesn't see through walls. Depending on the strength of the IR signal and interference from sunlight or other infrared-transmitting devices, the range may be shortened. These limitations make IR unsuitable for RC vehicles intended for long-range flight, outdoor racing, and other activities where it may be difficult to stay in range and within line-of-sight.
So... now you know... Let me explain what you might see when you go outside and try. When you go out, you will try to fly your helicopter. It will work, but after a while, itll start flying by itself, and youll lose contorl. It will work, its just that your range is incredibly shortened. It is no rumor, it is true science.

What do you look for in a RC helicopter that is able to go left and right, back and forth.?

Thang D

My cheap one only flys up and down depending how much power you supply it. I am think it has to do with the # of channel. Can you recommend somthing that is cheap. Thanks

Answer
I have just recently ventured into the RC Helicopter world. For my first heli I decided on an ESky Lama V4 which is what they call a coaxial heli. It has two sets of main blades stacked on top of each other turning in opposite directions & no tail rotor. It offers up & down(of course), sway left & sway right, forward & backwards, and spin left & spin right. After researching them a bit I found that the coaxial heli is perfect for beginners and novice pilots due to the controls being very easy to learn and master. This unit came with a flight simulator that allows you to fly right on your computer using the actual remote for the heli. It also came with a training kit to help aid in first time flights and landings. All this cost me about $85.00. It is a nice sized heli for still being considered a mini. It measures about 16" long and about 7" tall.
There is a another helicopter made by EFlite called the Blade CX and CX2. These are very close in comparison to the Lama but with a little higher price at about $120.00. Both are very nice helis and look great! Also both of these helis are easily upgraded to allow for individual tinkering and likes if your brother decides he really likes the RC helicopter as a hobby. Oh, I forgot to mention........ both of these are electric helis and can be flown indoors as well as outdoors. Hope this helps!

Lito T

this is for hobby , remote control helicopter

Answer
Hi Lito,
A typical 3 channel heli has throttle, yaw and pitch.
Throttle makes the heli go up and down.
Yaw makes the heli turn left and right.
Pitch makes the heli lean forward and back (making the heli fly forwards and backwards).

A 4 channel heli adds roll.
Roll makes a heli lean left and right (making the heli fly sideways to the left and right)

That addresses your question, but I recommend this additional reading:

My dad is going to be getting me something for Christmas, $85 limit. I want a rc helicopter. Ive only had cheap walmart ones before, so i need some expertise. Im wanting a namebrand fairly decent sized helicopter that will be able take some minor crashes. I did a little research and it seems that the Align T-Rex 250 is decent. Any ideas? Remember I have $85 to spend, including taxes and shipping.

Answer
I wouldn't recommend the Align T-Rex 250, and it's over the budget anyways? The smaller the helicopter, the more crashes it can resist, and the cheaper the replacement parts are. Just the battery looks like it's 3 times more expensive than a mini helicopter, and you will need extra batteries if you would like to fly for more than 10 minutes.

Do you have a radio/controller already? If you do, you could buy the BNF version of the helicopter and it will be cheaper. If you don't, then look for the RTF version that comes with a radio/controller.

The Blade MCX RTF is $80 at Horizon Hobby
http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/blade-mcx-rtf-EFLH2200
It's a coaxil heli, so you will have to fly it indoors and outdoors only when it's not too windy. It can take a good beating, better than the t-rex, and the parts are pretty cheap.

These 3 are some I have looked at while I was doing research about rc helicopters when I wanted to purchase one. These are fun, you won't be able to do 3D tricks with them though. It depends how many channels was the one you had, these are 3 channels and good practice.

The Syma S107 is $27 at amazon. It's a beginner helicopter, but it's small and reviews say it does good in taking crashes (4 out of 5 stars).

The Helizone Combat fighter 3.5 Channels looks fun. It's $36.99 on amazon, and you can look up videos on youtube.

The Syma S107C has a built in camera, and it's $39 on amazon.

I purchased the Nano CP X BNF, and a DX6i receiver, and depending your age and experience, this is not a beginner one. But it's just something to look for in the future if you want to get into the hobby. The heli cost me $160 online, and the reciever/controller (DX6i) cost me $70 USED.

You could also suggest to him to look on craigslist for used ones, don't be uptight about it and demand a new one if your father can't afford ones over $85. I bought the DX6i for my boyfriend from craigslist, and it came in original box and everything, for less than half the price, and he loves it anyways. You could find a used Blade MCX or MCX2 for a really good price, and if it's from a person that looks like it's their hobby, it will probably be very well taken care of.

you or your father should check out this forum's for sale threads:
http://www.helifreak.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6

you can also feel free to ask questions on there, or check out the "newbie" section for advice, there has been many people also asking for a beginner heli, so you can read the responses.

Don't try to get a "professional" type helicopter because for those you need to make a bigger investment than just the helicopter. For an advanced heli you need an advanced radio, not the ones it comes with, and you will need to purchase a simulator to practice on because crashing the helicopter will cost you a lot of money!

Goodluck and have fun :)

Where can you buy or make a computer controlled RC helicopter with realtime video?

Where can you buy or make a computer controlled RC helicopter with realtime video? I can make it or buy but I don't know where to find it.

Answer
Computer controlled is really hard to make and you will have to know a lot about or just know a person who does electrical engineering to build your own system.

What I would suggest you do is to get a RC helicopter that is very stable to fly like this http://www.xheli.com/50h33-warhawk300-q4-comancheblue.html. This is a coaxial helicopter, it's hover by itself and you wouldn't need to worry much about it. The reason I would use a big one is because there would be more space to store a camera. Most of the cheap coaxial helicopter are only made from plastic with no metal bearings and can only fly up and down anyway.

After you have your copter set up, something like this will help you:
http://hackedgadgets.com/2005/08/10/computer-controlled-rc-helicopter/
http://www.endurance-rc.com/pctx.html <buy an adapter to connect to your transmitter, it should come with software
Note: You may have to re-program the controls in order to control your helicopter from computer.

For the camera, get something like a mini helicopter cam like http://www.xheli.com/72p-90-carcam.html or http://www.xheli.com/72p-52-voicecam.html. Get a electrician to help you design a wireless connection system between your computer and the camera. OR buy a wireless camera out of a shop that can fit into your heli. This website has the technology you talk about: http://www.geekalerts.com/real-time-video-rc-helicopter/

What you may want to search up is UAV helicopter designs. Many people use bluetooth to control their helicopter but I would stick to radio transmitter.

I bought a double horse 9100 and I think it is way to advanced to for me. What do you guys think? I already cracked the head cover and a decorative bar is gone (does that matter?) I have flow a mini in door helicopter and that is too easy and I need something to start with that is under $100. Please help I really want to get into this hobby but I've gotten way over my head.

Answer
HI there,

If you find the mini heli too easy i suggest you start with a 250 sized heli. that is not too big, can be flown indoors and even outdoors on easy days.
You could start with a 4 channel (not 3d).

In my experience this is a very good heli to start with:
http://www.rc-heli-review.com/rc-heli-reviews/walkera-hm-v200d02

Easy to fly, very easy and cheap to repair in case you crash it and there are lots of spare parts availible. ALs very strudy model so won't break down on a soft crash.

Good thing is that it's even flybarless wich makes for a superiour flying experience.
Make sure you get the hovering under control before you go all out on the sticks.

It's a little more expensive (150 dollars) but i'll last you a long time before you grow out of this model and you won't break it that easily. If you really want to get into this hobby start out with this one and then after a year you can always upgrade to something bigger and more agile.

Good Luck

i would go with electric to start off. gas can be more complicated.

word of advice dont just buy the helicopter find someone willing to teach you how to do it without destroying it.

sometimes they can even help you set it up.

local RC clubs may be able to help you get more info on the hobby.

I have a Syma mini that I can control really well and I'd like to get a helicopter that has a little more control and that I can fly outside. I looked at the Revell Proto CX but it seems alot like what I already have. I also like the ready to fly option too. Thanks

Answer
I have a Syma mini as well (I just found out what it's called thanks to this question!) and if I were you I would move on to a model that has a swash plate. That way you get a helicopter that functions exactly like a real one, none of these toys. :P Beware though, they are MUCH harder to fly so expect a bunch of crashes. They are also far more powerful and can be flown in a light breeze outside. However, there aren't many RTF kits. I personally love building them but each to their own. If you are willing to build them (if you get a kit that has everything that you need) I recommend a T-Rex 250, they are awesome. I'll be honest; being able to fly one of these counter-rotating helicopters probably doesn't bring you to an intermediate level. If you don't want to build one at all, get the SKYARTEC Wasp Belt 250, it looks like a nice piece of kit.

whats the best micro and mini sized heilcopter with the best gyro?

spartain00

and is about under a foot and at lest have replaceable parts or upgradeable parts

Answer
I always try to steer people away from cheap Chinese junk like Syma... But I have to admit the price is right. Just keep in mind that this is really a disposable helicopter. The quality control is horrendous and you will get no support from the manufacturer. Yes, some spare parts are available, but the design and engineering that goes into these cheap toys leaves a lot to be desired. As a for instance, the speed controls on Syma copters do not have any sort of LiPo cut off, so it can be very easy to ruin the battery.

For just $30 more you can get a true hobby grade helicopter with real manufacturer support if something goes wrong. For micro look at the Blade Scout: http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/blade-scout-rtf-3-ch-heli-BLH2700

For mini's, you have a lot more choices. Align makes some really fine helicopters, as does Blade. In my opinion, one of the better quality of the minis:
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/cPath/2_382_707/products_id/220852/n/Align-T-Rex-100X-Super-Combo-Electric-RTF-Micro-Helicopter-Kit

Here is a list of quite a few micro's and minis:
http://www.amainhobbies.com/index.php?cPath=2_382_707&n=RC-Helicopters-Kits-Micro-Mini&sort=prl&filter_mfr=

Lastly, I would suggest purchasing a copter at a local hobby shop. That way you'll have local parts support and won't be waiting for the mail to arrive with a replacement part. You can just drive down the road and pick it up the same day if something breaks. A broken copter sitting on the workbench waiting for parts isn't much fun. Not to mention almost every hobby shop will have a knowledgeable person behind the counter to ask questions!

definetly use crazy glue, hot glue wont work as crazy glue, why? for hot glue you need a large amont and it wont be glue like crazy glue does, that will cause the helicopter vibrate a lot, use crazy glue, you use less glue and get a powerful union.

http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/blade-mcx-rtf-EFLH2200

Answer
These are the ones I was able to pick out between the car not RC shops in VA. I hope you will be able to find one for yourself but if your going to leave it there get a receipt or something in writing that they have your RC.

why wont my mini rc helicopter fly outside?

no its not the wind. im talking about the copter doesnt react to the remote like it does inside. outside theres more of a delayed reaction. tell me why is that?

Answer
It is because your helicopter most likely uses infrared technology.
So when flying outside...
It does work, but the signal is just shortened.

Now, if your helicopter had an antenna on it, and it isnt using infrared technology, then it is most likely due to interference. but I doubt it.
Does your remote look like this:

something like that with a red thing on top? If yes, I answered your question properly.

can Remote Radio Control RC MINI Helicopter fly outside in the sun?
