Where can you buy or make a computer controlled RC helicopter with realtime video?

Q. Where can you buy or make a computer controlled RC helicopter with realtime video? I can make it or buy but I don't know where to find it.

Answer
Computer controlled is really hard to make and you will have to know a lot about or just know a person who does electrical engineering to build your own system.

What I would suggest you do is to get a RC helicopter that is very stable to fly like this http://www.xheli.com/50h33-warhawk300-q4-comancheblue.html. This is a coaxial helicopter, it's hover by itself and you wouldn't need to worry much about it. The reason I would use a big one is because there would be more space to store a camera. Most of the cheap coaxial helicopter are only made from plastic with no metal bearings and can only fly up and down anyway.

After you have your copter set up, something like this will help you:
http://hackedgadgets.com/2005/08/10/computer-controlled-rc-helicopter/
http://www.endurance-rc.com/pctx.html <buy an adapter to connect to your transmitter, it should come with software
Note: You may have to re-program the controls in order to control your helicopter from computer.

For the camera, get something like a mini helicopter cam like http://www.xheli.com/72p-90-carcam.html or http://www.xheli.com/72p-52-voicecam.html. Get a electrician to help you design a wireless connection system between your computer and the camera. OR buy a wireless camera out of a shop that can fit into your heli. This website has the technology you talk about: http://www.geekalerts.com/real-time-video-rc-helicopter/

What you may want to search up is UAV helicopter designs. Many people use bluetooth to control their helicopter but I would stick to radio transmitter.

i want to buy an rc helicopter please recommend (note:price range is less than $300 AUD)?

iv already had 2 mini helicopters but now i want something more complex i dont want to need lessons or anything thanx for ur help

Answer
With a more advanced helicopter, you need practice or you will simply smash your heli into the ground first time out.

(The videos of them doing crazy stunts have an expert at the controls.)

This product comes with a simulator that may be helpful.

hi,i am looking for a RC Helicopter which carry wireless video camera.anybody can help?

Answer
Lots of possible solutions for you.
There are dedicated RC heli forums where you will find many answers on getting started.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/Helicopter_Beginners_Forum/forumid_165/tt.htm
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/Electric_RC_Helis/forumid_167/tt.htm
http://www.rcgroups.com/mini-helis-374/
http://www.rcgroups.com/micro-helis-42/

One of the early questions you will need to ask yourself is what is your budget?
For $200US you can get a marginally flyable electric heli with not much room for growth.
In the $1000 range are much better electric helis and the entry level nitro powered helis.
And you can easily spend $10,000 on a high end aerial photography setup.

Answer
Sounds like you just need a wireless pin-hole camera system. Try a YouTube video search: 'RC helicopter video camera'. Many of the posters state what cameras they are using.

Also do a google search with the same words. I found dozens of results.

i want to put a mini camera into an rc plane?

I want to put as small of a camera available into an rc plane and see a live feed to see as if i was in the plane. Can anyone help?

Answer
I can Recommend a 2.4 G spectrum - onboard DV520T by Mustek which can be used on RC cars, RC planes, RC helicopters, and RC boats if you keep it dry. It has crystal clear quality and you can see a video which persuaded me to buying one myself. It also gives live streaming to your computer.

What kind of rc helicopter should I be getting?

Chance

My dad is going to be getting me something for Christmas, $85 limit. I want a rc helicopter. Ive only had cheap walmart ones before, so i need some expertise. Im wanting a namebrand fairly decent sized helicopter that will be able take some minor crashes. I did a little research and it seems that the Align T-Rex 250 is decent. Any ideas? Remember I have $85 to spend, including taxes and shipping.

Answer
I wouldn't recommend the Align T-Rex 250, and it's over the budget anyways? The smaller the helicopter, the more crashes it can resist, and the cheaper the replacement parts are. Just the battery looks like it's 3 times more expensive than a mini helicopter, and you will need extra batteries if you would like to fly for more than 10 minutes.

Do you have a radio/controller already? If you do, you could buy the BNF version of the helicopter and it will be cheaper. If you don't, then look for the RTF version that comes with a radio/controller.

The Blade MCX RTF is $80 at Horizon Hobby
http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/blade-mcx-rtf-EFLH2200
It's a coaxil heli, so you will have to fly it indoors and outdoors only when it's not too windy. It can take a good beating, better than the t-rex, and the parts are pretty cheap.

These 3 are some I have looked at while I was doing research about rc helicopters when I wanted to purchase one. These are fun, you won't be able to do 3D tricks with them though. It depends how many channels was the one you had, these are 3 channels and good practice.

The Syma S107 is $27 at amazon. It's a beginner helicopter, but it's small and reviews say it does good in taking crashes (4 out of 5 stars).

The Helizone Combat fighter 3.5 Channels looks fun. It's $36.99 on amazon, and you can look up videos on youtube.

The Syma S107C has a built in camera, and it's $39 on amazon.

I purchased the Nano CP X BNF, and a DX6i receiver, and depending your age and experience, this is not a beginner one. But it's just something to look for in the future if you want to get into the hobby. The heli cost me $160 online, and the reciever/controller (DX6i) cost me $70 USED.

You could also suggest to him to look on craigslist for used ones, don't be uptight about it and demand a new one if your father can't afford ones over $85. I bought the DX6i for my boyfriend from craigslist, and it came in original box and everything, for less than half the price, and he loves it anyways. You could find a used Blade MCX or MCX2 for a really good price, and if it's from a person that looks like it's their hobby, it will probably be very well taken care of.

you or your father should check out this forum's for sale threads:
http://www.helifreak.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6

you can also feel free to ask questions on there, or check out the "newbie" section for advice, there has been many people also asking for a beginner heli, so you can read the responses.

Don't try to get a "professional" type helicopter because for those you need to make a bigger investment than just the helicopter. For an advanced heli you need an advanced radio, not the ones it comes with, and you will need to purchase a simulator to practice on because crashing the helicopter will cost you a lot of money!

Goodluck and have fun :)

I would like to get an on-board camera that transmits to a wireless screen so if I am at a park or something, I can see where my RC car is even if it is far away. If you know where I could find one, please let me know. Thanks!

Answer
raidentech:
"2.4 Ghz Mini Wireless Color Camera * R/C Spy Cam * for Remote Control Gas / Electric Airplane, Helicopter, Car @ 2.4GHz !!!! Designed in Japan using Sony/Toshiba technology"

xheli:
"Brand New 2.4Ghz HeliCam - a Micro Wireless Video Camera", can be used on cars as well.

hobbytron:
"Worlds Smallest 2.4GHz Micro Spy Cam! This Complete Kit is completely ready right our of the box!"

Looks like these are good for the RC vehicle. You just need to fabricate a mount for the camera. Enjoy.

looking for a mini rc helicopter?

shor_d_ing

i used to have a cheap mini rc helicopter and it was not very stable. it quickly was misplaced.
the other day a friend was playing with his new mini heli and it was extremely stable and easy to fly. he said it was a syma. i don't know what model but it was the metal frame.

im wondering if there is any other helis like this out there that are better, his budget was 50 bucks where im willing to spend more. any suggestions?

Answer
DUDE you have to check out the Z-Series Z008 Micro Helicopter w/Gyr !! this is a bad a$$ mini helicopter!! with LED lights

http://www.jatoytown.com/Z-Series-Z008-Micro-Helicopter-wGyro--As-low-as-3382_p_108.html

Its 4ch and VERY VERY VERY stable in the air with an all alloy body! Those cheap plastic 2ch and 3 ch helicopters are very unstable in the air.

This one on the other hand is one of the most stable I have seen for its size. With the hover blades you can even move it side to side which is awesome for a rc helicopter.

the retail on these are 89.99 but tell you what. use coupon code clist30 and that will give you 30% off the entire order which will make that helicopter around 60.00 which is a killer deal for that brand.

There is even a youtube video there on how that little guy flies. Check it out and let me know what you think..

There are other helicopters there too but as far as best mini one, this one takes the cake.

Hope this helps

Answer
The radio control box you use now can be linked with software to a computer. Do a Google search: https://www.google.com/search?q=transfer+os+to+another+computer&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#hl=en&client=firefox-a&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&sclient=psy-ab&q=rc+helicopter+control+by+computer&oq=rc+helicopter+control+by+computer&gs_l=serp.12..0i13i30.62657.62657.2.65224.1.1.0.0.0.0.125.125.0j1.1.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.e4-v4YJr6zI&psj=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&fp=f4422cad1e203d45&bpcl=38897761&biw=1272&bih=610
You will need a high gain dish antenna to track the helicopter if you wish to fly farther than 300 feet from the control station. And with a GPS on board, the copter would be preset to return home if the link is lost.
For video link from the rc helicopter: https://www.google.com/search?q=transfer+os+to+another+computer&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#hl=en&client=firefox-a&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&sclient=psy-ab&q=video+link+from+the+rc+helicopter&oq=video+link+from+the+rc+helicopter&gs_l=serp.12...64897.64897.3.71770.1.1.0.0.0.0.166.166.0j1.1.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.NaN05bHGy7E&psj=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&fp=f4422cad1e203d45&bpcl=38897761&biw=1272&bih=610

I have seen such RC helicopter video systems used by law enforcement, military battlefield intelligence, and professional motion picture cameramen on TV shows about technology. Now there are miniature electric copters with wireless video cameras on them for indoor use. You can fly around hallways and rooms with them. Some are inexpensive. http://www.rchelicopterfun.com/blade-mqx.html
Wireless security camera weighing a couple ounces is here: http://www.amazon.com/Mini-Wireless-Color-Camera-Microphone/dp/B000YM2OIK
You can input the composite (RCA jack) video into a computer with a video capture device on USB, but I would advise against it--might not work well with the radio control. You can use a portable TV like from Viore that will show the video well.

How to use 3 Wireless mini video cam?

Slash25

Hi,
im working on a project, which includes using 2-3 wireless mini video cam attached on a RC helicopter. is there a transmitter/receiver(whats the diff between them) that can be used to control the 3 cams that wont interfere with each others signals to the laptop for multi display which if theres a transmitter/reciever that can be connected via USB? is it possible?

Answer
This sounds like a project you wont be capable of completing without better knowledge of the electronics you are using... A transmitter transmits a radio wave whereas a receiver receives it. And yes it could be used if you know how to wire and mount them properly.
