mmm...I dont know what the hell that guy is trying to tell you, but, if you are going into RC Helicopters, I suggest something basic, durable, and affordable. The picooz he mentioned is no longer in stores. However, a similar product, the Air Hogs Havoc, is a great 2 channel helicopter. a channel represents how many functions the remote control could do. i.e. 2 channels, the Air Hogs Havoc could be controlled with the heli going up, down, and rotate left and right. It is really durable and fun at the price of $30. If you want a step up, you could go for the 3 channel Air Hogs Reflex/Helix. This helicopter could go up, down, rotate left and right, and go forward and backwards. This helicopter is really great for a second step up. As for the third step up, the next best thing would be a E-Flite Blade CX (2). There are two different helicopters. The CX2 just has a better transmitter. This is a very good helicopter to fly. It is a 4 channel helicopter. You could control forward/backward flight, tilt left right, rotate left,right, and control the up and down. This heli is $180-$200. It somewhat mimics the full function of a real scale helicopter. The only thing about this is that it has a self centering balance on it, making it easy for you to hover. Then after that, you could go anyway you want because you are familiar with the controls. I would suggest the Blade CP or CP Pro depending on how confident you are. This runes about $260. To answer your questions

1. RC helicopters can be flown for the duration of the battery pack. Knowing this, most all RC helicopters can accomidate different sizes of batteries. For instance with my T-REX I can fly approximately 6-8 minutes of sport flying with a 11.1v 1700mah lipo battery and 10-15 minutes with a 11.1v 2200mah lipo battery. Knowing your setup is a very important role in how long it will fly. The weight, pitch, electronics, and style of flying all play a factor in how long it will fly. Nitro helicopters are considered infinate in flight time because you can simply fill the nitro bottle up again and again until the engine overheats.

2. This is a hard question to answer and no one helicopter is considered relativly quiet. 4 channel helisopter that have a fixed pitch are more commonly found to produce less noise such as the E-Sky lama v4. Whereas with helicopters such as the T-REX or Belt cp can be exsessively loud because of they're high headspeeds and intense thrust. Again this answer can be different based on your heli setup, how you fly, and what electronics you have chosen. The most obvious of noise makers is Gas helicopters and 500 sized electrics, anything smaller is reletively quiet.

3. My favorite RC helicopter is..... well gosh it's hard to come up with a favorite. T-REX, Pixy Zap, HDX 500, Raptor 30... the list goes on. My newest favorite now is the CopterX simply because of it's price tag. You get all aluminum helicopter completely tricked out and flies as well as T-REX...or better, and has insane flight characteristics for it's size for only 169.99!! In the end there's so many favorites because there's one for every size and class of heli.

RC helicopters take a lot of practice and skill to fly. Start with a cheap one with counter-rotational main rotor. After you learn to fly you can upgrade to a better one.

RC Crafting was once a exciting hobby enjoyed by all ages, but nowadays with smaller and cheaper electronics, it has long died as an art form. The sheer joy of detailing a minature craft and watching it take off was the Nintendo of yester-years.

The fact that you specified a wireless cam as an attachment leads me to think its not RC'ing you two are interested in, but rather sight-seeing or dare I say, spying, is what you are exactly looking for. In that case they already make something like that as a toy. It has limited range and either a b/w camera or a colour one. Some have mini monitors built into the controller, and others require pc or TV hookup for the receiver.

How much would it cost to get into RC helicopters or airplanes as a hobby?

I am 13 and have always been interested in I guess motors and aviation based movement. Basically long story short i want to try building an RC helicopter or airplane and want to know how much it would cost. I have around $300 or so to spend and I just want a simple start into this hobby so nothing fancy (PS i have a tiny bit of experience with aviation based RC models and i know how to fly a basic model airplane and a basic 3 channel model helicopter)

I would say start with elecric planes with a wide wing span they are easy to control. Also get a decent controller but not something to fancy . I was dumb and started out with a 4 channel rc helicopter and I got to say flying a real plane is easier to me then flying one of those things. First time I tried it out I pushed the throttle all the way in it went up got caught by the wind and got stuck in a tree
